The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued a public alert following Bank of Singapore Limited’s report of a fraudulent social media account, and pointed readers to the bank’s related press release. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including through embedded hyperlinks. It advised anyone who has shared personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent account to contact the bank using details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
