The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has revoked Mr Mui Chok Wah’s licence and its approval for him to act as a responsible officer of KCG Securities Asia Limited, and banned him from re-entering the industry for two years from 16 May 2025 to 15 May 2027. The action follows Mui’s criminal conviction for theft and his delay in notifying the SFC of the criminal charge. Mui was arrested and charged on 13 June 2024 for stealing a wallet left on an ATM machine and was convicted of theft on 11 September 2024. The SFC found that he failed to promptly notify it of the charge, instead waiting until conviction, with the approximately three-month delay breaching notification requirements under the Securities and Futures Ordinance and the Securities and Futures (Licensing and Registration) (Information) Rules, which require written notice within seven business days of changes including being charged with a criminal offence. In determining sanctions, the SFC cited misconduct and fitness and properness concerns, while taking into account Mui’s cooperation and otherwise clean disciplinary record.
