The National Bank of Serbia issued a reminder to citizens about using the NBS IPS instant payment system, promoting IPS QR code payments as a fast way to settle monthly bills and other obligations with immediate transaction confirmation. Payments can be made via mobile phone without visiting branches and without manually entering payment data, which the central bank linked to fewer errors. The update also positioned IPS QR code payments as cheaper than paying via payment cards through electronic portals, with banks charging lower fees and some offering the service free of charge. The IPS QR code is printed on invoices by major utilities including Electric Power Industry of Serbia, PUC Infostan Technologies and PUC Informatika Novi Sad, and is also available for telecommunications bills and at a wide range of merchants and fuel stations; the central bank reported that IPS QR code transaction volumes are rising based on statistics submitted by banks.
