The Bank of Finland announced that Bulgarian levs can be exchanged for euros in Finland from 1 January to 2 March 2026, alongside Bulgaria’s introduction of the euro on 1 January 2026. The arrangement forms part of a wider euro area central bank initiative to accelerate the repatriation of Bulgarian lev banknotes after Bulgaria’s accession. In Finland, the exchange will be carried out by FOREX under an agreement with the Bank of Finland, with no fees for customers. Exchanges are limited to a maximum of 2,000 levs per person per day, only banknotes will be accepted, and proof of identity is required; the fixed conversion rate is 1 euro = 1.95583 Bulgarian levs.
