Mexico's National Commission for the Protection and Defence of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF) published complaint statistics for Veracruz covering January to May 2025, reporting 3,760 complaints, an 8.5% increase versus the same period in 2024. Veracruz accounted for 3.3% of complaints nationally, while the amount claimed totalled MXN 143.6 million, up 0.3% year on year. Of the Veracruz complaints, 59.3% were handled via CONDUSEF’s Electronic Management process, 26.0% through REDECO (complaints related to debt collection agencies), and 14.7% through other processes. The most complained-about products were debit cards, credit cards and personal loans (50.7% combined), while leading causes included threats or intimidation linked to debt collection practices and unrecognised card and online transactions (28.5% combined). By sector, multiple banking represented 59.4% of complaints, followed by insurers (12.6%) and SOFOM ENR entities (9.2%); within multiple banking, 36.6% of complaints related to older adults and 46.3% were linked to possible fraud, primarily unrecognised transactions.
