The Central Bank of Costa Rica announced that sales will begin on 24 September 2025 for the third CRC 25 collectible coin in its “Emblematic Sites of Our Provinces” series, featuring the Casona de Santa Rosa in Guanacaste. The coin will be sold in both acrylic and presentation-case formats at CRC 9,050, with purchases limited to a maximum of two units per person regardless of format. A total of 10,000 acrylic coins and 7,000 cased coins will be distributed through financial institutions, with allocations based on each institution’s requests and each institution determining its own sales points and the format split by location. In parallel, a standard CRC 25 circulation coin without colour applications will begin gradual circulation from 24 September 2025 via entities in the National Financial System. For the cash transition, the previous and new designs of the CRC 10 and CRC 25 coins will temporarily coexist, and the Bank plans to announce in 2026 the date when the old-design CRC 5, CRC 10, CRC 25 and CRC 100 coins will cease to be valid as a means of payment, depending on progress in circulating the new designs.
