The Central Bank of Cyprus has created a Sustainability Committee at Governing Council level, following a decision by its Board of Directors, to support the process of defining and reviewing the Central Bank’s Sustainability Strategy and its contribution to the net zero carbon target. The committee will be supported by an already operational Sustainability Group that coordinates climate-related activities, aimed at further integrating climate considerations into the Central Bank’s work in line with the Sustainability Strategy. The Central Bank’s approach is aligned with the European Central Bank and adopts the guidelines of the Network for Greening the Financial System, described as a network of 114 central banks and financial supervisors focused on scaling up green finance and developing recommendations on the role of central banks in climate change.
