Poland's Ministry of Finance reported that Elzbieta Frankow-Jaskiewicz, deputy director of its Financial Information Department, was re-elected chair of the Egmont Group for the 2026-2028 term at the group's 32nd plenary session in Baku. The appointment keeps a Polish official in a role that helps set the Egmont Group's strategic direction and shape cooperation among financial intelligence units on anti-money laundering and counterterrorist financing. The ministry said the chair influences the organization's development priorities, initiatives to strengthen cooperation among financial intelligence units, and engagement with international bodies active in this field, including the Financial Action Task Force and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. The Egmont Group brings together financial intelligence units from 186 jurisdictions, and this year's plenary focused on the role of public-private partnerships in improving the effectiveness of the global framework against financial crime. During the Information Exchange Working Group, a representative of Poland's General Inspector of Financial Information and a representative of FIU-The Netherlands presented progress on a cross-border joint analysis project launched by the Polish unit in January 2026, including initial operational results. According to the ministry, the 2026-2028 term will continue work begun in earlier years, with a focus on stronger cooperation among financial intelligence units, support for their operational independence, and development of the Egmont Centre of FIU Excellence and Leadership.
