The Central Bank of Morocco (Bank Al-Maghrib) has issued a MAD 250 commemorative silver coin and put into circulation a MAD 100 commemorative banknote to mark Morocco’s hosting of the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (Morocco 2025). The MAD 100 banknote has legal tender status, will be issued in limited quantities, and will circulate alongside the standard MAD 100 notes already in use. The coin carries an effigy of King Mohammed VI on the obverse and, on the reverse, an artistic representation of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat with Africa Cup of Nations motifs. It is minted in proof strike with a 925‰ silver and 75‰ copper alloy, weighs 28.28 grams, has a 38.61 millimetre diameter, and a reeded edge. The banknote features imagery of the same sports complex and pan-African motifs and incorporates security elements including a windowed color-shifting security thread, a see-through register, color-shifting inks, tactile relief for the visually impaired, and micro-texts, with design and production carried out by Moroccan specialists at Dar As-Sikkah.
