Mexico's National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Financial Services Users reported that 11 financial institutions notified it of identity impersonation during August 2026. Individuals or purported companies allegedly used the institutions’ names, logos and, in some cases, fiscal or administrative data through print and digital channels to deceive or financially harm people seeking credit or other financial services. The affected entities were properly constituted and registered in the Financial Services Providers Registry and included a brokerage firm, two investment fund operators and eight nonregulated multiple purpose financial companies. The commission also received notice from Quálitas Compañía de Seguros that two companies without the required authorization to operate as insurance institutions appeared to be actively conducting insurance business.
