The Central Bank of Libya said Gov. Naji Mohammed Issa met the chairman and chief executive officer of the Federation of Industry, central bank department directors and suppliers to address import bottlenecks for essential food commodities ahead of Ramadan. The meeting resulted in urgent measures aimed at easing current shortages, improving supply and helping align prices with costs to keep goods affordable for citizens. Suppliers agreed to import 2.5 million boxes of cooking oil for delivery during this week and the next. Letters of credit have also been opened for cooking oil worth USD 100 million, equivalent to 6 million boxes, while procedures for importing essential commodities are to be facilitated more broadly to help replenish the market. The parties also agreed to hold periodic meetings to monitor market conditions and the regular flow of goods.
