The National Bank of Serbia disputed media interpretations of its data on foreign inflows to non-profit institutions serving households. It clarified that the sector received EUR 1.3 billion from abroad from 2021 through 2025, but the aggregate neither shows that the full amount went to citizens’ associations nor supports a conclusion that such associations did not account for a significant share. Under the ESA 2010 methodology, the sector includes a broad range of bodies, including trade unions, professional associations, political and religious organizations, sports clubs and charities. Statistical confidentiality prevents disclosure of data identifying individual entities, but the central bank noted that some associations and foundations each received more than EUR 10 million over the period.

It cannot disclose entity-level data because of statistical confidentiality, but some associations and foundations each received more than EUR 10 million.
