The Bank of Slovenia announced a program of events to commemorate 35 years since the introduction of the tolar on Oct. 8, 1991, and 20 years since Slovenia adopted the euro and joined the Eurosystem on Jan. 1, 2007. The program will trace Slovenia’s monetary development from its first national currency to participation in euro-area monetary policy. A central ceremony on Nov. 5, 2026, will examine the country’s monetary history and the future of money. An exhibition on Slovenian cash, covering the first temporary payment vouchers, the tolar and the euro, will run at the National and University Library in Ljubljana from Oct. 8, 2026, to Feb. 15, 2027. The anniversaries will also feature in the central bank’s financial literacy activities, including a children’s workshop on Oct. 5 and a literary competition for preschools and primary schools during the 2026-27 academic year.
