The National Commission for Financial Markets announced that, from 25 June 2026, consumers must be given a free Insurance Product Information Document before concluding a general insurance contract. The new pre-contract disclosure is designed to help consumers understand and compare insurance products more easily by presenting objective, clear and relevant product information in plain language. It summarizes the main covered risks, exclusions, limitations and consumer obligations, but does not replace the contract or its full terms and conditions. The document follows a standardized structure across products and uses distinct sections and easily recognizable icons so consumers can identify key features more quickly. It covers the type of insurance, covered and excluded risks, restrictions on cover, territorial scope, the consumer's obligations, how and when premiums are paid, when coverage starts and ends, and the conditions for terminating the contract. The requirement stems from amendments to Law No. 92/2022 on insurance and reinsurance activity, which require insurance service providers to supply consumers with objective, clear and relevant information before a contract is concluded.
