The Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) has announced a partnership with the IOTA Foundation to explore how the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) and verifiable LEI (vLEI) could provide secure, verifiable digital identity across global supply chains. The collaboration combines GLEIF’s identity standards with IOTA’s distributed ledger technology and its Trade Worldwide Information Network (TWIN) to support “on-chain” organizational trust, with the stated aim of improving transparency and reducing friction in cross-border trade. Initial proof-of-concept work is focused on potential applications including streamlining customs checks, simplifying supply chain processes, enabling secure digital payments, and expanding access to trade finance. The initiative is also positioned as contributing to broader efforts to develop digital public infrastructure.
