The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) published its Roadmap 2026-2027, setting out planned work across standard setting, implementation support and supervisory cooperation. The work programme prioritises enhanced monitoring of structural changes in the life insurance sector and finalising Insurance Capital Standard (ICS) related standards on supervisory reporting and public disclosure for Internationally Active Insurance Groups (IAIGs), with adoption targeted for November 2026. Planned deliverables include additional supervisory guidance on risks linked to increased investment in alternative assets and the growth of asset-intensive reinsurance, alongside continued analysis through the Global Monitoring Exercise and the Global Insurance Market Report and its mid-year update. The Roadmap also signals further work on climate metrics and scenario analysis, tools to help narrow natural catastrophe protection gaps, and ongoing priorities on digital innovation and cyber risk, including artificial intelligence, supervisory technology and operational resilience. Implementation work in 2026-2027 will include member self-assessments of implementation of the ICS and the qualitative aspects of the Common Framework for the Supervision of IAIGs (ComFrame), supported by a new interactive online tool compiling the ICS Level 1 and Level 2 texts with explanatory material. For governance and process, a new committee structure became effective from 1 January 2026, establishing the Monitoring and Risk Assessment Committee, the Standards and Supervisory Practices Committee and the Implementation Assessment Committee. Comments on the draft ICS-related ComFrame standards are due by 5 February 2026, while feedback on draft revised Application Papers on recovery and resolution is due by 25 February 2026; an Application Paper on operational resilience objectives and toolkit is scheduled for publication in February, supported by webinars running from 19 February through April.
