The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued a public alert following reports of fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens related to Chong Hing Bank Limited. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing them to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Individuals who provided personal information or conducted transactions through the fraudulent sites or screens were advised to contact Chong Hing Bank using the details in its press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
