The South African Reserve Bank published its Template on International Reserves and Foreign Currency Liquidity with end-December 2025 data, reporting official reserve assets (approximate market value) of USD 75,892 million and detailing the short-term foreign currency assets and liabilities of the South African Reserve Bank and the Central Government of South Africa. Foreign currency reserves in convertible currencies were USD 51,306 million, comprising USD 36,640 million in securities and USD 14,666 million in deposits, and the IMF reserve position was USD 106 million. Predetermined net drains within one year included Central Government outflows of USD 2,118 million in principal and USD 1,883 million in interest on foreign-currency loans, securities and deposits, while the forward and futures book showed net long positions of USD 1,157 million versus short positions of USD 4 million. The template also reported other contingent foreign-currency liabilities due within one year of USD 1,297 million, of which USD 948 million was principal and USD 349 million was interest, and disclosed a split of USD 47,857 million held in Special Drawing Rights basket currencies including gold versus USD 28,035 million in currencies outside the SDR basket.
