The Bank of Italy has reorganized its payment system statistics into thematic reports from the current edition, replacing the previous presentation with separate publications focused on customer payment methods, public administration collections and payments, and financial market infrastructures. The customer payment statistics are now split into a national report and a regional report. The national report covers payment instruments, channels and technologies, cross-border transactions, open banking and access to cash, while the regional report provides regional data on ATMs and POS terminals, non-cash transactions and indicators of access to cash. A separate report on collections and payments of public administrations contains data processed by the State Treasury and SIOPE+, and the former sections on interbank settlement systems and central securities management are now incorporated into the Financial market infrastructures report.
