The Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK) has urged victims of an alleged investment scam in Purwokerto, Central Java, to file complaints and has started a supervisory response after reports linked the case to a former employee of Bank Mandiri Taspen's Purwokerto branch. The immediate focus is to identify affected consumers and losses, while warning the public to apply OJK's 2L test before investing by checking whether an offer is legal and whether the promised returns are logical. OJK's consumer protection unit has summoned Bank Mandiri Taspen's board for an explanation because many victims are indicated to have used loans or credit from the bank to fund the investment. The bank has been asked to conduct a further investigation, especially into the number of customers who may have been affected and the value of losses, and to assist victims. OJK is also verifying information that the victims may include customers of other banks in Purwokerto. To support complaints, OJK plans to open a complaint post at its Purwokerto office and has contacted the police to pursue action in the case. It also reiterated a warning against offers promising high fixed returns in a short period with no risk.
