The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) ordered the cessation of insurance intermediation carried out via three websites that were offering insurance services without authorisation, and instructed internet service providers operating in Italy to block access to them. The websites are www.maroni-assicurazioni.com (and maroni-assicurazioni.com), www.clientiprima.it (and clientiprima.it), and www.danieledellanegra.it (and danieledellanegra.it). Blocking activities are underway and may take a few days for technical reasons. The cease-and-desist orders are published in the “Defend ourselves from scams” section of the IVASS website, bringing the total number of websites subject to such orders to 232 since IVASS began exercising its blocking power in November 2023. IVASS also urged consumers to use caution when assessing insurance offers made via the internet, phone, or instant messaging, particularly for temporary motor third-party liability policies, and to verify before paying premiums that quotes and contracts relate to duly authorised insurers and intermediaries by checking IVASS online registers and lists, including the Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI).
