The National Bank of Moldova published aggregated June 2026 data on licensed banks' foreign currency assets, liabilities and open foreign exchange positions, based on banks' regulatory reports on open foreign exchange positions. At the end of the month, total foreign currency assets stood at MDL 57.4 billion and total foreign currency liabilities at MDL 57.1 billion. The system's open foreign exchange position showed MDL 413.9 million in long positions and MDL 100.7 million in short positions, with EUR accounting for the largest exposures on both sides. Balance sheet items made up almost all foreign currency exposures, with foreign currency assets led by cash and other available funds in foreign currency, foreign currency loans and mandatory reserves placed with the National Bank of Moldova. On the liability side, client current accounts in foreign currency, client term deposits and other client foreign currency deposits were the main components. Total regulatory capital was MDL 23.57 billion. Relative to that capital base, the largest long position ratio was in EUR at 1.42%, while the largest short position ratio was also in EUR at -0.19%.
