The Bank of the Lao published an event update on Deputy Governor Surisak Thamnuvong’s participation, with a delegation, in the 61st SEACEN Governors’ Conference and the 45th SEACEN Board of Governors’ Meeting held in Indonesia on 28-29 October 2025. The meetings combined policy discussions on regional financial integration with SEACEN governance and planning decisions, including confirmation of the Bank of the Lao’s future hosting and chairing roles. The Governors’ Conference, chaired by Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo, centred on “Asian Financial Integration to Navigate Geoeconomic Shifts: Unlocking Growth and Innovation” and focused on deepening regional cooperation through stronger legal and regulatory frameworks, greater cross-border payments connectivity to support trade and access to financial services, and an expanded sustainable finance agenda alongside central banks’ financial stability responsibilities. The Board of Governors’ Meeting reviewed and endorsed SEACEN’s medium-term strategic plan for 2026-2030, assessed 2025 implementation, and discussed the 2026 work programme and budget spanning training and seminars, research, technical assistance, staffing and organisational administration. SEACEN members also announced that the Bank of the Lao will host the 62nd SEACEN Governors’ Conference and the 46th Board of Governors’ Meeting in 2026 and, in 2027, the 19th SEACEN-BIS High-level Seminar and the 26th SEACEN Executive Committee Meeting, alongside chairing SEACEN in 2027. Surisak Thamnuvong formally accepted the chairmanship and committed to support implementation of the 2026-2030 strategy and deeper cooperation among member central banks.
