In remarks at the 4th Regional Central Bank Communications Conference, Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Governor Timothy N.J. Antoine called on regional central banks to strengthen public trust through clear explanations, active listening and sustained engagement. He argued that communication must reach beyond markets, economists and the media to help the wider public understand central bank policies and participate in dialogue before crises arise. Antoine said central banks should assess whether their communications increase understanding, influence behavior and support action. He highlighted the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank’s use of consultations and outreach to inform its 2026–2031 Strategic Plan, currency redesign and Office of Financial Conduct, while stressing that delivery of the strategic plan will require public participation. He also urged responsible use of artificial intelligence to widen access and simplify economic information, with safeguards, human judgment and accountability to address misinformation and deepfakes.
