The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) ordered the cessation of insurance intermediation carried out through two websites that were offering insurance services without authorisation, and instructed their blocking for users in Italy. The blocking by Italian internet service providers is under way, with full implementation potentially taking several days for technical reasons. The affected domains are assicura.polizzeistantanee.eu and insurance.airoldiassicurazioniarona.it (including the www subdomain). The cessation orders are published in IVASS’s “Defend ourselves from scams” section, bringing to 309 the number of abusive sites targeted since IVASS began exercising its website-blocking power in November 2023. IVASS also reiterated consumer due-diligence expectations for insurance offers received via internet, phone or instant messaging, especially for temporary motor third-party liability policies, including checking that quotes and contracts refer to duly authorised insurers and intermediaries and consulting IVASS registers and lists (including the Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries and the lists of supervised insurers and insurers authorised to operate in Italy).
