The Reserve Bank of Fiji announced that Mr Esala Masitabua has returned to the Bank after completing a two-year secondment at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC, and will resume his role as Deputy Governor. During the secondment from November 2023 to October 2025, Mr Masitabua served as an Advisor in the Southeast Asia Group, supporting macroeconomic and financial policy advice to the IMF Executive Board, coordinating communication between IMF staff and constituency authorities, and representing the constituency in small states development discussions, including acting as Advisor for Tonga. The Reserve Bank of Fiji expects the experience to support its surveillance capacity, policy formulation, and succession planning and leadership development.

Mr. Esala Masitabua has returned to the Reserve Bank of Fiji as Deputy Governor after a two-year secondment at the International Monetary Fund, where he served as an Advisor in the Southeast Asia Group. His experience is anticipated to enhance the Bank's surveillance capacity, policy formulation, and leadership development.
