The Bank of Korea has published its May 2026 Business Survey and Economic Sentiment Index, showing a broad improvement in business and private sector sentiment. The all-industry Composite Business Sentiment Index rose 4.0 points from the previous month to 98.9, and the outlook for June increased 3.7 points to 97.6. The Economic Sentiment Index, which combines business and consumer survey results, rose 5.8 points to 97.5. Manufacturing CBSI increased 1.7 points to 100.8, with its June outlook at 100.3, while non-manufacturing CBSI rose 5.4 points to 97.5, with the June outlook at 95.9. Within manufacturing, business conditions, production and new orders improved, while in non-manufacturing business conditions, sales and profitability each increased. The cyclical component of the ESI was unchanged at 95.2. The results are based on a survey of 3,524 companies conducted between May 11 and 18, with 3,201 responses.
