The Portuguese Insurance Regulator (ASF) announced it will hold a conference in Lisbon on 12 January 2026 titled “Saving with purpose: your future, our progress”, focusing on mechanisms to stimulate long-term saving and on turning savings into a strategic instrument. The event will include an address by the European Commissioner for Financial Services and the Savings and Investments Union, Maria Luís Albuquerque, and will be closed by Portugal’s Minister of State and Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento. The programme also includes presentations on long-term saving incentives from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Director of Insurance and Pensions, Pablo Antolin, and Sigedis Belgium’s Director General, Steve Janssen, alongside a panel of leaders from Portugal’s insurance market moderated by a senior economist from DECO. ASF framed the conference as part of its 2026–2028 strategic plan priority to catalyse social resilience and citizen protection, with discussion aimed at identifying public policies and international good practices to strengthen the financial resilience of Portuguese savers.
