The Austrian National Bank (OeNB) announced that Martin Kocher has assumed office as governor with effect from 1 September 2025, succeeding Robert Holzmann, bringing the central bank’s new Executive Board to full strength. The OeNB Executive Board has four members appointed by the Federal President on a proposal from the Federal Government for six-year terms. Alongside Kocher, the board comprises Deputy Governor Edeltraud Stiftinger (in office since 1 December 2024), Director Thomas Steiner (since 1 May 2025, in his second term) and Director Josef Meichenitsch (since 11 July 2025). Kocher previously served as Austria’s Federal Minister of Labour and Economy until early March 2025 and earlier led the Institute for Advanced Studies, held a professorship at the University of Vienna, and was President of the Fiscal Council from 2020 to 2021.
