The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority’s Lake Zone office held a working session with managers of insurance companies operating in the region to agree strategies to reach more residents with insurance and increase the sector’s contribution to the Lake Zone’s gross domestic product. The programme focused on closer coordination between the regulator and insurers, including joint public education, product innovation and the use of accessible technology to reach underserved groups. The meeting also discussed strengthening sales of insurance products aligned to local needs, particularly in health, agriculture, mining, livestock, fishing, small businesses and transport, and urged firms to maintain professional standards, workplace ethics and effective customer service to build trust. It concluded with agreement to continue registering insurance agents and to pursue new distribution approaches to deliver the planned initiatives.
