The Central Bank of Taiwan published its May 2026 reserve money data showing that the daily average balance of reserve money rose to NT$7,604.8 billion, up NT$57.8 billion from the previous month. Within the total, currency in circulation fell by NT$40.2 billion, while reserves deposited with the Bank increased by NT$98.0 billion. The increase came despite contractionary factors including tax remittances to the Treasury, government borrowings and government bond issuance. These were more than offset by expansionary factors such as a net decrease in negotiable certificates of deposit issued by the Bank, interest payments on government bonds, repayment of government debt, and the disbursement of subsidies and centrally funded tax revenues. The annual growth rate of the daily average balance of reserve money rose by 1.02 percentage points to 8.80% from 7.78% in the previous month. For the first five months of 2026, the annual growth rate averaged 7.10%, compared with 6.01% in the same period last year. The next reserve money release, covering June 2026, is scheduled for 16:20 on July 10, 2026.
