The Ministry of Finance (Tanzania) used a public financial education session in Mwanga District to encourage community groups and microfinance service groups in Lembeni Ward to register through the Wezesha Portal, stressing the need for registration and licensing before providing microfinance services under Bank of Tanzania-related laws and the Microfinance Services Act. The Wezesha Portal, in use since October 2023, is positioned as a digital route that allows groups to register without visiting local council offices. The Ministry linked registration to access to economic empowerment opportunities, including government funds and programmes and connections to financial institutions offering lower-interest loans for youth entrepreneurs and other special groups, and reiterated a nationwide financial literacy programme target of reaching 80% of citizens by 2025/26.
