The Bank of Albania has announced its programme for Global Money Week 2026, running from 16 to 22 March 2026, with financial education and awareness-raising activities for children and young people. The initiative is coordinated internationally by OECD-INFE and, in Albania, will be organised with the Albanian Association of Banks and supported by the Ministry of Education and the Albanian Deposit Insurance Agency, under the slogan “Smart Money Talks!” and in the context of the 100th anniversary of Albania’s national currency. The programme focuses on encouraging open conversations about money and finance and covers practical themes such as managing income and expenses, understanding digital finance, recognising financial risks and fraud, and building healthy financial habits. Planned activities include educational events and competitions for pupils and students on personal finance and the role of the central bank, including a banknote design contest for third-grade pupils, a “100-Year National Currency” project contest for fourth-grade pupils, a meme contest for eighth-grade pupils, a video contest for high school students, and an essay topic for students on the evolution of money from the 1926 “Frang and Lek” to digital currency.
