In remarks at the closing of Insurtech Challenge 2026, the Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority said its role extends beyond supervision to supporting innovation in non-bank financial activities through the FRA Sandbox. The challenge was run with the American University in Cairo Venture Lab under the authority’s supervision and focused on developing practical technology solutions for the insurance sector. The authority described partnerships between its regulatory sandbox and business incubators and accelerators as a way to link innovation with regulatory and market requirements and to let startups test solutions in a flexible, safe regulatory environment. Of 68 applicant teams, 22 were initially accepted, 17 presented to a judging panel, five reached the final round and three winners were selected. Their projects focused on improving customer experience, simplifying access to insurance services, increasing insurers’ operational efficiency and using digital tools to reach new customer segments. The three-day event also included workshops, technical mentoring and sessions with insurance companies to help teams refine business models and align them with regulatory requirements and market needs.
