The Portuguese Insurance Regulator (ASF) hosted a thematic seminar on the role of regulation and supervision in a context of digital transformation and published the opening remarks delivered by its President, Margarida Corrêa de Aguiar. The address positioned digital transformation as already having deep impacts on insurers’ operating and business models and on the risks they generate, requiring supervision to balance the benefits of innovation with the trust needed for the financial system to function. The seminar was part of the second edition of the “Innovation and Transformation in Insurance” course run by Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics under its Insurance Knowledge Management Programme. Corrêa de Aguiar emphasised ASF’s focus on providing participants with a regulatory perspective on digitalisation challenges and argued that supervisors will also need to modernise by integrating technological innovation into their work, including in supervisory activities.
