Mexico’s National Commission for the Protection and Defence of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF) published complaint statistics for the state of Durango covering January to August 2025, reporting 3,094 complaints, up 11.5% from the same period in 2024. Durango accounted for 1.7% of complaints nationally, with MXN 93.5 million claimed, down 11.0% year on year, and MXN 27.8 million recovered, up 109.0%. Complaints came from residents in 34 of Durango’s 39 municipalities, led by the municipality of Durango with 74.6% of the total, followed by Gómez Palacio with 10.9% and Lerdo with 5.2%. Most cases were handled through CONDUSEF’s electronic case-management process (71.2%), while 18.9% were processed via REDECO, the mechanism related to debt-collection agency practices. The most complained-about products were credit cards, special credit reports, and personal loans, representing 40.2% of complaints, while leading causes included failure to update credit histories, collection actions directed at non-debtors, and unrecognised transactions, together representing 21.2%. By sector, multiple banking accounted for 51.2% of complaints, followed by SOFOM ENR with 13.4% and credit information companies with 11.7%; within multiple banking, 25.7% of complaints came from older adults and 38.8% were linked to possible fraud, mainly unrecognised card purchases and unrecognised electronic transfers.
