The National Credit Regulator (NCR) published a consumer advisory during Savings Month and Men’s Month calling on men to take greater control of their personal finances by building a regular saving habit and using credit more carefully as household costs rise. The NCR argued that perceived pressure on men to be “breadwinners” can contribute to living beyond one’s means, overspending and falling into debt traps, as well as reluctance to seek help. It promoted practical steps including budgeting and tracking expenses, requesting the free annual credit report, understanding rights under the National Credit Act (NCA) and asking questions before signing credit agreements, using only NCR-registered credit providers, avoiding scams promising fast income, seeking help for debt or addiction issues, saving consistently even in small amounts, and considering downgrading where overindebted.
