Ceres submitted a public comment letter to the California Air Resources Board supporting implementation of California’s climate disclosure laws and urging the agency to harmonize its approach with major global climate disclosure standards to reduce duplication and improve comparability. The submission draws on virtual roundtables and poll responses from more than 100 climate and financial reporting practitioners representing over 70 companies, trade associations, and institutional investors. Corporate participants indicated that many companies in scope are prepared to disclose climate-related information and would benefit from regulatory certainty as they build internal capacity and establish controls and procedures for compliance. Ceres highlighted that nearly all participating companies already report climate-related risks and greenhouse gas emissions, and recommended interoperability with the International Sustainability Standards Board Standards and the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, including a reporting timeline that permits publication within 12 months of fiscal year end.
