Bank of the Lao backs launch of UnionPay VientianeWinCard to support modern electronic and Lao China cross-border payments

The Bank of the Lao published an update on the launch of the UnionPay Vientiane Win Card (VW Card) by Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited, Vientiane branch, alongside an initiative to establish cooperation pathways for more convenient payment services. The ceremony was attended by Bank of the Lao Deputy Governor Arun Bounyong, who highlighted the authorities’ focus on payment systems that are safe and convenient and on accelerating a shift to modern electronic payments, while encouraging commercial banks to cooperate continuously to support closer Lao China trade and investment links. The release positioned the VW Card as a product upgrade combining security and convenience, with a design featuring cultural imagery from Guangxi, China, and described the launch as a milestone in cooperation between ICBC’s Vientiane branch, UnionPay and business partners to expand cross-border payment services and improve payment products and services.
