The Alberta Securities Commission, together with the Edmonton Police Foundation and Edmonton Police Service, announced Stingray Security as the winner of the ScamShield: Investor Protection Challenge, a joint initiative to develop new solutions to online crypto investment fraud. The winning product identifies risky website links and blocks potential threats in real time before they can cause harm. The challenge, launched in 2024, received more than 30 submissions, and Stingray Security was selected as one of two top concepts to move forward in development before being awarded first place. The in-browser tool flags and blocks phishing websites, fake investment platforms, and other malicious scams, is available free of charge, and can be downloaded via the Google Chrome Web Store. The ASC also highlighted complementary investor-protection steps, including using CheckFirst.ca and verifying registration via aretheyregistered.ca before investing.
