The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority has published an update on a meeting between Insurance Commissioner Baghayo Saqware and National Health Insurance Fund Director General Irene C. Isaka on the implementation and supervision of universal health insurance in Tanzania. The discussion centered on how the two institutions will coordinate on the rollout and oversight of the framework. The meeting followed a presentation on the basis for, and importance of, the National Health Insurance Fund taking an active role in supporting TIRA's insurance sector supervisory mandate. TIRA linked its work to the government's objective of ensuring that every Tanzanian has access to health insurance by 2030 and said it will continue to provide technical and professional input to the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance Act. The update also noted ongoing cooperation with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders, while NHIF said it would continue working with TIRA to support implementation and supervision of universal health insurance.
