The Central Bank of Egypt reported that the financial inclusion rate reached 79% at the end of June 2026, with 56.4 million of the country’s 71.4 million people aged 15 or older holding active financial accounts. These include bank and postal accounts, mobile wallets and prepaid cards. Women’s financial inclusion rose to 72.5% from 19.1% in 2016, while the rate for people aged 15 to 35 increased to 58% from 36.3% in 2020. The central bank is preparing the second National Financial Inclusion Strategy for 2026–2030 with relevant ministries and authorities. Based on supply- and demand-side measures and a financial services survey conducted in the first quarter of 2026, the strategy will target effective, secure and sustainable use of financial services. Priorities include digital innovation, sustainable finance, financial literacy and consumer protection, support for small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurs, integration of the informal economy, and further development of financial and technological infrastructure.
