The Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) appointed economist Luis Alberto Pérez González as acting president, effective from 15 April 2026, in accordance with Article 14 of the decree-law governing the BCV. The appointment places him in charge of leading the central bank, including responsibility for monetary policy management. Pérez González previously served as the BCV’s First Vice President Manager and a member of its board from April 2025. His earlier roles were largely in development banking, including alternate executive director to the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) and Executive Vice President of Venezuela’s Economic and Social Development Bank (BANDES) in 2020, and principal director of Bandes Uruguay in 2022.
