The National Bank of Moldova published banking system statistics on cash operations for 2024, showing cumulative cash disbursements from banks’ cash desks reached MDL 179,670.8 million and exceeded cumulative cash receipts of MDL 174,117.1 million by MDL 5,553.7 million. Cash receipts increased by MDL 3,752.4 million (2.2%) year on year, led by receipts from the sale of consumer goods which rose by MDL 8,509.3 million (9.1%) to MDL 102,441.2 million, representing 58.8% of total receipts. Other receipts grew by MDL 635.4 million (2.8%), and receipts from credit repayments increased by MDL 545.4 million (10.6%). Offsetting moves included declines in receipts from rents and utilities (down MDL 2,092.6 million, 58.9%), receipts to individuals’ current and deposit accounts (down MDL 1,861.2 million, 10.4%), and receipts from individuals’ foreign currency sales (down MDL 1,293.5 million, 17.9%), together amounting to MDL 5,938.1 million (USD 333.8 million equivalent). Cash disbursements rose by MDL 5,156.8 million (3.0%), driven mainly by higher ATM withdrawals (up MDL 4,453.7 million, 6.2%), cash disbursements in the form of loans to individuals (up MDL 1,499.3 million, 47.1%), and wage and social-payment related disbursements (up MDL 1,431.0 million, 10.0%), while disbursements for buying foreign currency from individuals fell by MDL 2,706.7 million (6.6%).
