The Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency has authorised Zagreb-based Electrocoin d.o.o. to operate as a crypto-asset service provider (CASP) under Regulation (EU) 2023/1114 on markets in crypto-assets (MiCA) and Croatia’s implementing act, making it the first firm to receive a MiCA “crypto licence” from the supervisor. The authorisation covers exchange of crypto-assets for funds, exchange of crypto-assets for other crypto-assets, and custody and administration of crypto-assets on behalf of clients. Electrocoin will be the first firm entered in Hanfa’s Register of Entities Authorised to Provide Crypto-Asset Services under MiCA and will fall under Hanfa oversight for all activities related to providing crypto-asset services. Before obtaining the licence, it operated in Croatia as a virtual asset service provider under the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act; under the MiCA implementing act, such firms must obtain a Hanfa crypto licence by 1 July 2026 to continue providing services after that date.
