Austria’s Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI), the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) and the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) have signed a comprehensive memorandum of understanding to strengthen cybersecurity, formalising cooperation between the NIS authority within the BMI and the financial-sector competent authorities for the enforcement of DORA. The MoU is grounded in the EU Network and Information Security Directive (NIS2 Directive), particularly Article 13(4) and (5), and replaces previously informal coordination with a permanent, binding framework. The cooperation is intended to support the authorities’ cybersecurity tasks through more effective information exchange among the authorities and with the financial sector. It focuses on national and European programmes and projects, coordinated operational initiatives, and education, training and professional development activities, alongside collaboration on specific issues such as sharing information on major ICT-related incidents and cyber threats and involving the financial sector in the cybersecurity strategy.
