The European Central Bank published its weekly financial statement showing total assets and liabilities of EUR 5.897 trillion at Sept. 25, a transaction-driven decline of EUR 1.215 billion from the previous week. Securities held for monetary policy purposes fell EUR 3.046 billion to EUR 3.344 trillion, while lending to euro area credit institutions through monetary policy operations declined EUR 232 million to EUR 29.045 billion. On the liabilities side, balances related to monetary policy operations fell EUR 18.050 billion to EUR 2.294 trillion, mainly because current accounts decreased EUR 18.729 billion. Liabilities to non-euro area residents denominated in euros rose EUR 32.099 billion, partly offsetting declines in current accounts and liabilities to other euro area residents.
