The Alberta Securities Commission, alongside the Edmonton Police Foundation and the Edmonton Police Service, announced Stingray Security as the first-place winner of the ScamShield: Investor Protection Challenge, backing a free browser-based tool designed to identify risky website links and block potential threats in real time, with a focus on online crypto investment fraud. Launched in 2024, the challenge received more than 30 submissions and advanced Stingray Security as one of two top concepts for development. The in-browser technology flags and blocks phishing websites, fake investment platforms and other malicious scams, and is available free to download via the Google Chrome Web Store. The ASC also highlighted investor resources on CheckFirst.ca and encouraged investors to verify that individuals, firms or platforms are registered with Canadian securities regulators via CheckFirst or aretheyregistered.ca, citing Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre data estimating Canadians lost about CAD 310 million to investment scams in 2024.
