The Central Bank of Luxembourg reported that, based on provisional data, credit institutions’ aggregate balance sheet declined 1.52% in July 2026 to EUR 1.035 trillion. The monthly contraction mainly reflected lower claims on other banks and deposit-taking institutions, while liabilities to other sectors and to banks and deposit-taking institutions also fell. The aggregate balance sheet remained 5.83% higher than a year earlier. Loans to non-bank customers fell 1.30% during July but increased 4.78% year on year. Over the 12 months, household mortgages rose 2.14% and lending to other financial intermediaries increased 9.69%, while loans to non-financial corporations declined 0.70%. Resident non-bank deposits decreased 0.51% during July but grew 5.55% year on year, led by increases from other financial intermediaries and households. The interbank balance fell 4.16% during the month to EUR 213.79 billion.
