The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP) carried out a technical visit to Spain’s Directorate-General for Insurance and Pension Funds (DGSFP) to exchange knowledge and supervisory experience on the regulation of mutuals, a priority area following Complementary Law No. 213/2025 bringing “mutualistic property protection” into SUSEP’s supervised market. The programme covered accounting and actuarial aspects, technical provisions, auditing, regulatory capital, the sanctioning regime, registrations and authorisations, minimum required capital, investments, and risk management and internal controls. SUSEP highlighted the DGSFP’s established track record and consolidated framework for supervising mutuals, noting that relevant prudential and normative experience could inform the Brazilian context while recognising legal differences. SUSEP indicated that the information exchange will support the development of regulation and supervision for the new mutualistic property protection segment, with the stated aim of strengthening legal certainty, financial stability and consumer protection for mutual entities.
